Graded Training Classes 
These classes are for any dog of any age, its a great opportunity to work your way through graded classes 

Below is the list of criteria for Handlers to achieve with their dogs to obtain the IMDT Partnership Grade One Certificate. As with all IMDT Partnership Grades, the focus must be as much on correct and sympathetic handling as it is on the dog achieving the designated exercise.

All handling must be in strict compliance of the IMDT Code of Ethics.

The IMDT Member must assess their Handlers honestly in a manner that ensures a relaxed learning environment for both the Handler and dog. Assessment can be over a period of several weeks.

IMDT Partnership - Grade One

LOOSE LEAD WALKING

Course of approx. 100 metres to include at least one right turn, one left turn and one about turn. The course must also start from a sit, have a sit mid-course and end in a sit.
3 rewards may be given on the course but no luring is allowed.
Handler may use verbal cues/encouragement throughout the course.
Lead must be comfortably loose throughout the course.

INSPECTION

Handler and ‘Stranger’ ( Trainer) to be able to handle the dog as per a standard vet inspection. Dog must be comfortable ( trained correctly through classical conditioning) to have areas listed below to be handled:-
Ears
Teeth
Mouth
All four feet
Tail
Abdomen
Eyes

NB: no food to be used during ‘test’

RECALL FROM PLAY

Handler places long line ( to trail on floor, not in handler’s hand ) on dog and removes lead. With a cue from Handler of ‘off you go’ (then with no other cues/talking), the Handler walks with the Trainer to a marker 50 metres away. Once at the maker, the Handler then calls the dog (no food in Handler’s hand) for the dog to return to be placed back on lead within 5 seconds.

SIT

Handler to cue the dog into a ‘sit’ (no food lure), step 5 paces away (use long line). Dog to remain in a sit for 30 seconds before owner returns to the dog’s side for a count of 5 seconds before releasing the dog from the position.

DOWN

Handler to cue the dog into a ‘down’ (no food lure), step 10 paces away (use long line). Dog to remain in a down for 60 seconds before owner returns to the dog’s side for a count of 10 seconds before releasing the dog from the position.

TRICK

Handler to be cue the dog to perform one of the exercises below, 3 times in succession, with no food lure:-
Rollover
Spin
Speak
Bow

CONE SEARCH

Dog to be sent from a distance of at least 10 metres to 3 cones (spaced at least 2 metres apart) to find and retrieve the dog’s toy to Handler.
